Continuing Education with Dedicated Dental Hygiene

Continuing education is a hallmark of any professional — no matter what the industry, staying current on the latest technology, breakthroughs, and perspectives is always an asset. For dental professionals, Dedicated Dental Hygiene is excited to present a six-hour workshop with speaker Judy Bendit, RDH, BS, at the Discovery Museum in Reno on March 6. Register now for the two-part course — “The Myths, Legends & Realities of OTC Products” and “Back in Black: Silver Diamine.”

The Myths, Legends & Realities of OTC Products

This four-hour program is a deep dive into the many myths, legends, and realities of toothbrushes, toothpastes, and mouth rinses. Ms. Bendit will lead participants in critiquing vintage commercials to evaluate the role they’ve played in shaping current dental philosophies. The course also identifies the challenges dental professionals face in attempting to get the right products into the hands of our patients. Understanding the role of advertising within the industry will help you make better decisions for yourself and the patients you treat. It’s a comprehensive dive into why we recommend certain products, and it will open your eyes to a wider range of choices and options.

“Back in Black” — Silver Diamine

Silver diamine fluoride remains one of the hottest topics in dentistry in the past five years. According to the Association of State & Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD), the colorless liquid comprised of silver particles and fluoride ion has been used extensively outside of the United States for many years. That’s no surprise, given its ability to actually arrest tooth decay. It’s particularly suited to treating caries in those who cannot access or will not cooperate with conventional dental care, include small children, older adults, or people with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

In this informative workshop, event attendees will learn about the products and process in detail, along with the do’s and don’t’s of silver diamine that every dental professional should know. Silver diamine fluoride is included in the class fee, and you’ll leave with a thorough understanding of this technology, along with optional hands-on experience.
